How bright children are challenged at Iona Presentation College

Iona Presentation College has a strong commitment to academic excellence, nurturing the growth of students at all levels of their education.

At Iona, opportunities for highly able, gifted and talented young women are provided through a variety of in-school and out-of-school enrichment and extension opportunities.

"We believe that gifted students need time to work with like-minds, so we offer electives such as Full STEAM Ahead, where they experience inquiry based activities in areas such as the design process for engineering.

"Advanced classes are offered in all core areas of study allowing students of higher ability to find a greater challenge."

Iona participates in team events, encouraging collaboration and flexible learning opportunities such as the da Vinci Decathlon for Years 7 to 10 students, the SciTech Brain Storm Challenge and The World Scholars Cup.

"World Scholar's Cup is unlike any academic competition. As a Year 7 entering the program, I was mentored by incredible people, cemented lasting friendships and unlocked amazing education opportunities," said Talliah Galindo.

"It was incredible to meet and compete with students from other countries, who share the same passions for learning and making an impact on the world. I have developed a better insight on how global issues affect individuals, communities and cultures, which now gives me a more well-rounded perspective on some of the problems we face today."

To celebrate Gifted Awareness Week, Iona Presentation College held activities and competitions to celebrate the individual creativeness of our gifted students. They also took part in the Innovation Festival on Thursday 16 March.

Held at SciTech, the festival focussed on the theme Augmented and Virtual Reality. Students connected with a wide variety of careers and engagement activities in STEAM, including engaging with WA innovators, producers and coders in virtual and augmented reality software.
