Iona girls make a difference supporting Vincent's Project for the Homeless
Vincent is an exceptional young man!
Four years ago, at just seven years of age, Vincent decided he wanted to help the homeless.
"I have seen many homeless people on my walks with my grandparents into the city," he said.
"Mum says that people are homeless for different reasons; they could be sick and don't know where to get help, some people have to leave home because of bad situations and others have lost their jobs.
"It doesn't matter what reason; these people need help."
This was when Vincent decided to create homeless packs. Each pack would include items such as a blanket, towel, toothpaste, toothbrush, pillow, deodorant, shampoo and soap.
He contacted the St Vincent de Paul Society for assistance and started a Facebook page where he requested donations from the community.
Hearing about how Vincent in making a difference for the homeless people of Perth, sixteen students from Iona Presentation College joined Vincent to participate in an exciting and extremely rewarding service opportunity recently.
"We supported Vincent's Project for the Homeless, and helped him, along with many other volunteers, pack bags that will be distributed to the homeless and those in need," said Sarah Overheu (Year 10).
The packs include items such as toiletries, water bottles, towels, blankets, pillows and hygiene products. Everyone participated with great enthusiasm and excitement in this wonderful opportunity to help those less fortunate.
"It was a great learning opportunity for us, recognising how much of a difference just one person can make with a great idea, and how it sparks others around them to do the same and help within the community," said Sarah.
"We also realised how much effort people put into serving others, and how if everyone contributes we can make a huge difference."
Vincent and his team packed 1,720 bags for the homeless. To find out more about Vincent, visit https://www.facebook.com/vincentsprojectforthehomeless/
